Valley Airways taxis for takeoff of Capital Connection business

The Scottsbluff-Capital Connection air service by Valley Airways was to take off Friday morning after a delay because of a lack of passengers.
Valley Airways owner Dick Bosn had planned to begin his service to Lincoln on Wednesday.

Bosn said he couldn't justify starting the intrastate service Wednesday but wasn't surprised by the initial low numbers.
"I'm sure that it's going to take a little bit; not everyone reads the newspaper or listens to the radio," he said.
Bosn said that while he had planned to fly three days a week - Monday, Wednesday and Friday - that isn't set in stone and if other days appear to be busier, he make adjustments.
"We don't have a schedule," he said. "We only go if we have people."
Bosn said he hasn't set a minimum on the number of passengers he'd need to fly but has said that he needs to have three to break even on costs.
"I may set a minimum of three to dispatch but I haven't done that; at the present time, we'd go with one. We're presently an on-demand airline."
He said that he doesn't have to file any state or federal documents to change his schedule and that passengers will have a say on when they want to fly.
He said he hasn't received much feedback about the flights but said he has talked to the state about the cost of the flights and the schedule.
During a press conference earlier this month, Bosn said the flights to Lincoln would leave Scottsbluff at 5:30 a.m., arriving in Lincoln around 8:30 a.m. and returning to Scottsbluff around 7 p.m.
Cost of the flight, round trip, is $551.25 and one-way is set for $275.88, which Bosn said provides him with a profit while providing business people same-day service to the state capital.
The aircraft used for the flights is a Piper Navajo, six-passenger plane, which has a top speed of 190 mph. He estimated the flight from Scottsbluff to Lincoln would take around two hours, depending on weather conditions. The planes will fly at 9,000 to 11,000 feet.
