Britain Agency Says It's Close to Approving Deal to Buy Refueling Aircraft From Consortium
LONDON (AP) -- Britain's Defense Ministry said Friday it was close to approving an euro18.5 billion (US$24.5 billion) deal to buy refueling aircraft from a consortium that includes French defense companies EADS and Thales SA.
The deal for a dozen A330-200 aircraft to refuel Royal Air Force fighters includes a 27-year service contract.
A Defense Ministry spokesman said the AirTanker consortium, which also includes Rolls Royce, was the preferred bidder and the contract was in the "later stages of the approval process."
