Aircraft accident closes Westchester airport

The Federal Aviation Administration is reporting that an aircraft went off the end of the runway Friday morning at Westchester County Airport -- and that the airport is closed until further notice.

It is unclear at this time what type of aircraft -- private or commercial -- was involved in the incident or if there were any injuries. It also is unclear if weather was a factor.

The incident occurred, according to the FAA Web site, at 8:45 a.m. Calls to FAA officials in New York were not immediately returned on Friday.

The airport, located in White Plains, handles more than 450 flights per day with 75 percent of those flights being classified as general aviation -- and just 25 percent being commercial, according to the FAA.
