Speed case pilot given flight ban

A police helicopter pilot has been suspended from flying after being charged with dangerous driving.

Ian Kingston flies the Western Counties Air Operation helicopter, which serves Gloucestershire and Avon and Somerset police during pursuits.

The 49-year-old appeared at North Avon Magistrates Court on Monday after he was allegedly caught driving at 110mph in a coned-off section of the M5.

A temporary speed limit of 40mph was in force at the time.

Mr Kingston, of Shipwick near Bridgwater, was released on unconditional bail and the case was adjourned until 3 September.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesman said: "The member of police staff is currently on restricted duties pending the outcome of the criminal proceedings."
