Kenya Airways to compensate victims' families

Kenyan Airways has offered compensation to the immediate families of those who died in the plane that crashed in Cameroon last week. The offer of compensation is contrary to recent reports that the airline will not go that route.

Some families have signed, while others will still consult with relatives and seek legal counsel.

In another development, the South African forensic team is the only one that has arrived in Douala, Cameroon to assist with the identification of bodies from the wreck.

Seven South Africans were among the 114 people killed. Cameroon, Kenya, Tanzania, the US, China and India also had nationals among the dead.

Leonie Ras, the South African team leader, says it remains to be seen whether crucial evidence was recovered from the wreck.
